Papiere Bitte!

Inexorably we move towards a police state.

The government was facing more confusion over ‘vaccine passports’ today after Dominic Raab suggested they could be needed to get into pubs and supermarkets in the UK.

The Foreign Secretary appeared to contradict a series of other government statements as he said the idea was ‘under consideration’.

Anyone giving such an evil idea anything looking like a second thought should be told very firmly where they can put their ideas and if they like it so much, Kim Jon Un would doubtless welcome them to his utopia. No, it should not be “under consideration” it should be rejected out of hand as a vile, evil, illiberal insidious idea that exists only in police states.

The comments risked provoking anger from Tories who are already deeply alarmed about the way the pandemic has hammered civil liberties.

Not just Tories. We really need something to change as voting this lot out at present means letting an equally insane lot in. Oh, and the pandemic didn’t hammer our civil liberties, our government did.

Aides scrambled to clarify that Mr Raab had been responding to a ‘hypothetical’ question and while ‘vaccine passports’ are being looked at for international travel, they are ‘not being considered domestically’.

The appropriate response to such a hypothetical question should be robust and negative, involving sex and travel, making it very clear that it is an abhorrent concept – which, doubtless is why Tony Blair has crawled back into the light to air his views on the matter. He can take the sex and travel option, too. What part of “we want nothing to do with you?” does this odious man not understand?

  1. If Tony Blair thinks that anything is a good idea that means that it isn’t. The thing about this vaccine is, if it works then those who have been vaccinated have nothing to fear from those who haven’t. If it doesn’t work, or only works in a limited way, then these idiots are still wrong.

  2. At this rate there’s going to be a massive black market. Same as the ‘success’ with the war on drugs?

  3. As an example from my own life. One of my pals at Uni, years ago was a rich kid. His grandad flogged loads of food direct during the war, subverting the ration system. These people in the gov are totally incompetent and we need to ignore them. They are dangerous.

  4. “……vaccine passports ………are not being considered domestically.”
Sounds like the chairman of a football club saying something like, “The Board, and I, have the ultimate faith in the abilities of the manager to take the club forward.” a few days before they get rid of him.

The idea you have to have a passport to go around Tesco is ludicrous

Professor Robert Dingwall, Government Covid adviser, said: “I can’t see the point. The whole idea of a vaccine is that it protects you. It doesn’t tell you anything significant about the risk you present to another person… The idea you have to have a passport to go around Tesco is just ludicrous.”
