Doubleplusungood

The twisting of language here is taking mental gymnastics to Olympic standards.

People who do not have immunity could be required to test negative twice over three days in order to get freedom to mix freely in pubs and restaurants for 24 hours.

That is not freedom, that is serfdom. Our freedom is not for government to grant, it is ours by right.

But the blueprint – being pushed by Michael Gove within Whitehall – is coming under intense fire from Conservatives who regard it as an unacceptable infringement of civil liberties.

At least some people get it.

But Tories told MailOnline that instead of coercion minister should look at offering that generation £100 each to get immunised.

Oh, great, if blackmail doesn’t work, resort to bribery.

Let us remind ourselves here of the reality of the risks we are facing. This is a novel coronavirus, which inevitably meant a low level of immunity. However, even then, the survival rate is over 99%. For most people it is unpleasant but survivable – much like seasonal flu. The cohort most vulnerable are those already knocking on the Grim Reaper’s door.

For this, we have lost a year. For this, we have been placed under house arrest. For this, the state took an unprecedented power grab that wouldn’t look out of place in a despotic dictatorship. And for this, they are seeking to blackmail us or bribe us with our own money. Any last shred of Boris Johnson’t libertarian instincts are gone now forever.

These people are now objectively evil.

  1. Look, am I being stupid here? Have I got this completely wrong? But I was under the impression that having a vaccination will NOT stop you catching Covid; and will NOT stop you passing it on. It should however mean that should you be unfortunate enough to catch it, you shouldn’t be anywhere near as ill WITH the vaccination as without. So if I’m right, what the hell is the point about all this nonsense? Vaccinated or not vaccinated, what’s the difference? And you could argue that a lessoning of symptoms might mean that you wouldn’t realise you’d got it, and would be more likely to go out into the world and infect others…

    • It’s not you being stupid. This is a nasty example of what happens when governments get hold of too much power. It goes to their heads. Far too many people don’t question them, let alone apply reason, logic or evidence.

The only benefit of the vaccination is reduced symptoms if you get it. The downsides are pretty much unknown given the lack of long term data.

  2. It wasn’t very long ago Twatcock claimed on TV that “The Vaccine” stopped you from infecting others, but later that same day the CEO of Pfizer admitted they had no evidence to confirm this…

  3. It departed when upper class twits ensured no middle or working class kids could ever get positions of power and said twits no longer need to consider reality.

  4. What? You expect them to remove the restrictions and nonsense? Don’t be daft …

    https://summit.news/2021/03/22/covid-restrictions-to-remain-in-place-for-years-says-public-health-official/

The take away is “restrictions are likely to remain in place for years because the public has become used to them.”

So, once you are used to the restrictions they become permanent and more restrictions can be imposed until you are used to that trance of restrictions and then … You get the idea, I think.

  5. So are they going to test for immunity against all those pesky variants amongst the vaccinated before they are allowed out?
Because all I read today is caution, the vaccine is not effective for everyone, can’t be too careful. Older people, variants, blah blah, still need hands face space.
They can’t have it both ways.

  6. I thought that this was an interesting article. I think that it is relevant.
If more people actually understood the nature of science, governments would be less able to abuse it in order to bully people into compliance.

Interesting that, as far back as the 1970s, school science lessons didn’t include learning about the actual reality of what science actually is. I learned about that by reading a lot long after I left school.
