Popcorn Time

I suggest ordering in your popcorn now as things are about to get interesting.

Sajid Javid today confirmed all frontline NHS workers in England will need to be fully-vaccinated against Covid by April or they will be sacked, despite being warned the ‘no jab, no job’ move could trigger an exodus of up to 100,000 employees and cripple an already under-staffed health service.

Set aside for a moment the ethics involved here and focus on the power relationship. Javid is betting his shirt on compliance, but if 100,000 people stick to their guns, he will be in deep trouble. If people who work in healthcare are refusing and have consistently done so up to this point, then this kind of force is more likely to make them stick to their convictions rather than cave – although some will, of course.

Announcing the controversial policy in the Commons, the Health Secretary said it was the ‘first duty’ of everyone working in the health service to ‘avoid preventable harm to people that they care for’ because they ‘carry a unique responsibility’.

As we all know, and healthcare professionals will be well aware, this is bollocks. The jibby jabby doesn’t stop you getting it or spreading it, so the statement is false.

When he’s sacked that 100,000 people, how will this disastrous system hold up? And how will that look for HMG?

As I said, there’s a whole bag of ethical considerations here as well and it tells us much about the kind of person Javid really is.

So, as I say, order in that popcorn and sit back. Things are about to get interesting.

  1. According to the Knuckle Dragging My Life Away blog, this kind of stuff has been going on in the US for a while now. As you can imagine, things are not going well. People are quitting their jobs in droves. They seem to have a seperate problem in that nobody wants to work in the restaurant industry because the pay and conditions are so bad that living under a bridge is actually preferable.

  2. Also re. the US, have a look at https://areaocho.com/
He’s a Hospital Medic, and has been seeing lots of staff shortages as people are refusing the notavaccine.
Oh, and “No Jab, No Job”. Didn’t Harvey Weinstein get locked up for that?

  3. On the bright side, it’s been impossible to reform the NHS.
But like the Mysterons, before you can create, you must first destroy.
This jab mandate will destroy the NHS.

Perhaps some sanity may prevail in it’s replacement. I’m not hopeful, but even a 1% or 2% sanity-outbreak would be better than now.

  4. And how many patients of all ages suffering from the dreaded pox, that previously was only a serious problem for elderly returned to “care” homes, have already been doubled jabbed?
    Look, a squirrel.

  5. Isn’t that a serious unilateral change in their contract of employment, that should be fought in court?

    • Indeed – and the NHS is, as far as I know, fairly heavily unionised. On the other hand the union hierarchy will very likely be strongly in favour of the jab mandate.

      Popcorn time, indeed.

  6. I heard this at length on Radio 4 this morning, and read a separate long article on BBC news this afternoon. Not once was the jab’s (as declared by Boris himself) inability to prevent infection or transmission mentioned. Pitiful.

  7. My ex works in a care home and has refused the jab. I asked her about what will happen tomorrow and she said most of the other carers have had their shots, (although some of them are off sick with illness – nothing to do with the jab obv’s…..) so they may be able to cope. It may be interesting if a few more go off sick, what with winter coming up, and the home is not able to comply with the CQC requirements for staffing.
And some knobhead on the Jeremy Vile Show last week said “if they don’t get the jab get rid of them and take on new staff”. Just like that – anyone can do it, you don’t need any training – it’s an unskilled job. That shows the low regard and lack of understanding of the role of carers held by some members of the public.

  8. The ‘vaccine’ just tends to stop the flare that occurred in older patients. It does not stop infection nor transmission so all it does is mitigate any infection. No-one (to my knowledge) has ever made a genuine vaccine against a Coronavirus. So what is the point of of ‘No jab, no job! Same with the covid passports. Also they blather on about anti bodies but all antibodies wane. It is he clone of T cells primed and ready to repel border viruses where long term immunity resides. Surely the PTB know this?

  9. The Covid jab doesn’t work like an ordinary vaccine but sometimes it is expedient to pretend it does.

  10. Heard on the toady programme this morning: Care home manager said one member of staff who has refused the jab asked “Why do I have to get jabbed, but a ‘Residents Care Giver’ (family member) can come in here and provide care but does not have to be jabbed”? He said he didn’t know, it’s double standards.

Personally, I feel sorry for the residents, but I hope this turns into a real shit show.

    • Given that Javid is now mooting banning over 65s from public spaces – the same caveat as before that they aren’t actually thinking of doing it, but it’s on the table – a shitshow is exctly what we need. These people really are objectively evil and it needs something significant to remove them from office. All of them on both sides of the house.

The Health Secretary said the Government was not looking at the idea “yet” but declined to rule out that it would ever be adopted. A Downing Street source later said the policy was not being actively pursued but added that the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic meant few potential measures could be ruled out.

Any decent human being would rule it out automatically without giving it a second thought.

  11. It shouldn’t be a problem. All those diversity co-ordinators that cost the same as two nurses should be able to take the place of two front line workers.

  12. I work in a small care home. We have lost two members of staff as they didn’t want the jab. One other caved in but wasn’t happy about it. Trouble is lots are leaving as don’t feel they are being valued esp by the owners. Big problem is no one wants the jobs, they now don’t require any previous experience. Just walk off the street and get going. Same pay as those of us that have lots of experience, we are having to train them, and still no extra pay. They are relying on the existing staff to pick up extra shifts to cover the gaps. It’s the same in other care homes locally. So anyone who fancies a job in care, nows the time to go for it.

Despite what some think, it is a skilled job. We get training, we gain experience, and the relatives of the residents expect us to be able to care properly for their loved ones. Unfortunately our wages reflect the view we are unskilled.
As for relatives who haven’t been jabbed, from this week, they are not allowed into care homes. We had builders installing new bathrooms. They were delayed as we had covid in the care home. Now as the builders haven’t had the jabs, all work has stopped, residents are loosing out.
Us carers who answer the door have to have proof that the person visiting has been jabbed and also has done a lateral flow test. We should be caring for the residents.
