Wrong, Wrong, Wrong

Regardless of where you stand on the Russia/Ukraine conflict, this is just wrong. Deeply immoral. Indeed, it amounts to blackmail and theft and these two things are never morally justified.

Chelsea could be allowed a return to selling tickets for future matches by donating all profits as humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Roman Abramovich’s government sanctions have frozen all the Russian-Israeli billionaire’s UK assets except Chelsea, but the Stamford Bridge club can only operate under stringent licence.

It’s one thing to temporarily freeze assets belonging to enemy aliens – assuming that is what Abramovich actually is. However, to then demand that this organisation donate money to a cause dictated by the government is so far off the path of morality, it no longer measures on the scale.

What happened? When did the world lose its mind?

Oh, and according the the Mail Putin is responsible for a spike in covid cases. Of course he is. Probably responsible for the rain that fell today.

Is Putin to blame for the UK’s Covid surge?

No. Idiots.

  1. What happened? When did the world lose its mind?

Not sure about what, but I’d definitely say 1997.
    Election of Tony Blair.
Don’t know if that was a symptom or a cause or an accelerant, but the rot really set in around then.

    • He was pretty ineffectual. By the time we got to 1997, the country was tired of 18 years of Tory rule and he was no Thatcher, to be sure. So, yes, I do think that Blair was an inevitable effect of this.

  2. Are we at a state of war with Russia.
If not can’t think of any other justification for such actions.

Suspect our leader’s clever sanctions and other actions will prove to be home goals in quite short order.
Not as they’ll be paying the price for their folly, it’ll be us plebs as per usual.

  3. Well, you know the mob, fuelled by the Press, grandstanding politicians and Soshul Meeja have got their pitchforks out and and are looking for witches.

You know if you dunk them in water and they float they are guilty, don’t you?,,,

  4. The real problem is that it appears that western governments can do whatever they want to whoever they want, without limits.

  5. Meanwhile, UK citizens languish in Iranian jail, because Iran Government has differences with UK Government. This is bad.
But stealing assets of Russian citizens because…that’s OK.
The hypocrisy is strong on this.

The Russians in UK are NOT enemy aliens. We are not at war with Russia. Yet.

And this illegal confiscation will do untold damage to UK (and Europe) as a financial & trading centre: if property rights no longer exist…who will dare invest, employ, or settle transactions here?

  6. “…if property rights no longer exist…who will dare invest, employ, or settle transactions here?”

Absolutely, and this is really basic stuff. Without property rights you have nothing, no incentives to do anything productive at all. Kleptocracies all over the world testify to this.
