Waaaycist!

Nah, it isn’t.

The widow of ‘traveller king’ Willy Collins has warned of ‘war’ if there are any attempts to demolish or alter a giant, 37 tonne memorial to him, thought to be Britain’s largest private grave- as details emerged of his colourful life, MailOnline can reveal.

Kathleen Collins insisted that racism is behind protests over the lavish monument erected in tribute to Willy, 49 a renowned bare-knuckle boxer who was a leading figure in the travelling community and known as the ‘King of Sheffield.’

Council officials in the city have protested that the flamboyant memorial broke planning laws because it did not match the original plans while Kathleen and her family claim that they have been inundated with hate messages on social media about it. The council’s rules state that memorials must be under 3 inches thick and under 4 feet 4 inches tall. Big Willy’s memorial stands at 10 feet high.

It’s not racist to criticise a tasteless pile of ugly tat that would put Del Trotter to shame. It’s a repulsive eyesore and pointing this out is perfectly justified. Bugger all to do with racism and everything to do with decorum and good taste – or in the case of the Collins’ a lack of it.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, she said: ‘The council have raised concerns because members of the public have been hounding them to complain about it. There’s a lot of racism and jealousy involved because Willy was a famous traveller who was known all over Sheffield.

Not living in Sheffield, I feel that I might have dodged a bullet there.

  1. “The council have raised concerns because members of the public have been hounding them to complain about it.”

So they submitted plans which presumably were approved and then built something entirely different. The council then had to be hounded by the public before getting off their arses to do something about it. Raising concerns, that will show ’em.

  2. They are untouchable and they know it. If you’ve ever had any dealings with these awful people-as I have-then protesting to the council is a waste of time.

    • I had dealings with some of them years back, when I served in the Royal Artillery. A group of Irish travellers had somehow managed to get onto one of our firing ranges the night before an exercise. Naturally they refused to move and even challenged us to make them. My CO handed their leader a pair of binoculars and pointed the four 105mm light guns that were situated on a hill some miles off, pointing in the direction of the ground they’d set up camp on. Yep, they’d set up camp right on the part of the range we were going to be putting really big holes in. My CO assured him that we would be firing at 1000hrs, regardless of whether the travellers were there or not. They were gone by the time we got back to the RHQ. Never had problems with travellers after that.

  3. Yet, if a member of “the settled community” (i.e. tax payers) had committed 1/10th of this level of violation, they would be hounded through the courts to the uttermost extent of the law.

These people think they are above the law and time-and-again they are proven correct.

  4. It occurred to me that the tolerant people of the United Kingdom could pay their respects to this pikey’s bawdey grave by paying it a visit and dumping all our household rubbish over it.

And then taking a big old shit on it.

“His impressive mausoleum outshines even Del Boy Trotter’s memorial to his old mum in Peckham.

And unlike Del, they won’t have to paint it luminous yellow. It can already be seen from outer space. Cosmic”

Should be removed yesterday. Gruesome eyesore and horrendous for anyone visiting graves nearby.

  6. Interesting that the gates to their property are emblazoned with a massive pair of initials; WC.

I wonder if they understand irony.

  7. Interestingly, I had quite a few trips to Ireland due to my job. On one occasion the daily trip between the hotel and the workplace meant that I passed a graveyard. Massively ostentatious memorials seem to be a thing there, often festooned with a plethora of angels and cherubs as I seem to recall. I assumed that they imagined that God would be impressed.

  8. I would be willing for the memorial to remain if the angels and cherubs were removed and replaced by figures of the elderly men and women these thieving parasites have conned or threatened out of their life savings.
