Another variant could take the world by storm, one of the country’s top scientists warned today on the eve of the final Covid measure being lifted in England.
Sir Patrick Vallance said the ‘room for this virus to evolve remains very large’ and the world ‘could be taken by surprise again with a variant that escapes immunity’.
No10’s chief scientific adviser also insisted the current wave ‘is not over and we have got very high infection rates at the moment’.

His comments come as other top scientists today warned the health service is under severe pressure and Britons should continue to wear masks to limit the spread of the virus, the day before free Covid tests for all is scrapped.
What part of ‘masks don’t work’ do these charlatans not get? And, no, I damned well won’t wear one, just as I won’t go along with all the other insane, useless restrictions these evil people imposed on this country for two years. Now, finally most people are coming to their senses and saying ‘never again’ while Half Whitty and Vallance try desperately to fan the flames of fear.
Meanwhile, Sir Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, told a conference today: ‘The waves are still occurring.’ He added they will ‘certainly’ continue.
It’s been endemic for nearly eighteen months. If we don’t get used to it now, we never will. When are we going to hang these people and be done with it?
And Dame Jenny Harries, head of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), called for the nation to keep wearing face masks because infection rates are so high.
Jesus Christ! Masks have no effect on the spread – the evidence is in – well, it was before, but now we have the real world results of what happened across the globe and the restrictions made no damned difference, yet still they beat the drum. No one is listening now.

The pandemic, such as it was, was over by June 2020. Since then it’s been endemic and even at its worst was a pretty mild disease that had a kill rate similar to seasonal flu. The second coming of the black death – or even Spanish flu – it wasn’t.
That multi person gallows is needed right now.
The pandemic was over before it started by classical definition of a pandemic. It was only possible to call it a pandemic due to WHO changing definition in ~2007 to “anything we declare a pandemic” no deaths, illness necessary

The stupidity continues here in New Zealand.Infections are running at about 15,000 per day, now mostly affecting children in the 12-14 age bracket.Deaths are running at about 15-20 per day but what no one in charge is saying is that the large majority are of old people,most in their 80s and 90s. What a surprise, someone that old dying.As someone who is 84, I understand that any infection I get may be my last one but I am sick of the continuing doom laden press conferences about how we are all going to die if we do not accept what they say as gospel.As for masks ,I find it appalling that people are wearing them outdoors and in their private cars. What happened to the Nations which waged war to defend freedom?

That is one that puzzles me too. I presume that such people are incapable of reasoning even at the most basic level.
I was at the theatre last night and, although there were screens that requested mask wearing showing before the performance, very few people wore them. It appears that the theatre staff were being forced to wear them, there is probably some arse covering reason for that. I’m waiting for someone to claim that they’ve been harmed by the things and go to court, then the arse coverers will be banning them instead. I recon that masks are down to about ten percent in the supermarkets now, I still see the occasional idiot in the gym.
There’s an awful lot of people incapable of basic reasoning. This episode has highlighted it much to my horror. I did have my underlying suspicion, but now I know for certain.
Health and Safety are still enforcing the recinded requirements by the back door: visitor logs, sanitising surfaces…

I visited the dentist this morning and they are still insisting on mask wearing. Now even apart from the fact that this is a waste of time, the dentist, FFS! The idiocy seems to have bypassed them.
Pavlovs dogs – the peeps have been deliberately terrified by the government for two years and have been ‘conditioned’. I don’t blame all of them, they trust the government and aren’t necessarily able to sort through the propaganda, it’s the people who ARE capable of some critical thinking BUT CHOOSE NOT TO BOTHER I have utter contempt for.
Elsewhere it has been mentioned that the current news is so consistently batshit crazy that it’s impossible to spot the April Fool’s jokes. The radio news has been claiming that, in the UK, Covid infections are at a record high. I suspect that discontinuing the handing out of free testing kits will bring the numbers down a bit.
