The Police Are Not Your Friends

Having done the police’s job for them, you get ticked off.

A group of bowling club volunteers who set up a sting to catch young vandals on CCTV have been told off by police – for filming the youngsters without permission.

Harehills Park Bowling Club in Leeds has been the victim of an ‘unprecedented amount’ of vandalism and break-ins over the last eight months.

And they wonder why we are increasingly hostile towards them. Bear in mind that the club had done nothing illegal here.

The bowls club, established in 1907, decided to get CCTV to catch the vandals. Only hours later, volunteers discovered one of the memorial benches had been destroyed.

The CCTV footage had stopped recording – but captured clear images of the youngsters before they put on balaclavas and vandalised the CCTV.

Most reasonable people would say ‘jolly good.’ Well, I would anyway.

However, West Yorkshire Police criticised the bowls club for taking a video of the youths who tried to break in.

In a statement posted on social media, a Harehills Park Bowling Club member said: ‘The police actually complained to me for taking a video because they are kids.

‘We literally did their job for them, instructed them how to apprehend them, yet protecting them because of their age, the law is not on our side when it comes to youths.

The state is not your friend. How many times must it be said before people take notice?

My response would have been something like, well if you lot weren’t so completely and utterly useless then we wouldn’t have to do your job for you now would we?

  2. Live in, a small nice village in Yorkshire (for now). Our local Banter page on Facebook regularly post cctv footage of, these, feral youths, stealing, vandalism, being totally stupid.
It’s reported to the police, apparently, but there’s never a follow up from the poster or the police. Know I know why.

  3. I’m a great believer in ‘sharing the pain’. If the police won’t prosecute then consider taking (lawful) action against the parents and sue the Chief Constable to recover your costs. You may not get any money back, but you have made it more unattractive to let things slide in future.

  4. A good kicking usually resolves these issues promptly.

As for Old Bill; useless, paramilitary thought-police. They have managed to lose the respect of very many law-abiding people and will continue to do so while they persist in their blatant dereliction of duty.

  5. I was once talking to a resident of an inland marina in Essex.I asked if there was any problem with young vandals. He replied “not now, they all got swimming lessons fully clothed”

  6. Funnily enough, I’v had the police in Dagenham asking for my cctv footage a few times to help them resolve some cases in the area, which I provided happily although I had to spend my own time doing it.

Now, some twats have dumped some fly tipping on the small piece of land between my gate and the pavement but guess who has to clean it up to not get fined by the council…?

Next time the police comes, I will tell them exactly why I’m not helping.
