One For Julia

This is usually up her street, but I couldn’t resist. You may recall  the media getting all worked up over a lion on the loose in Berlin this past day or so?

Sheepish authorities in Germany have called off the hunt for a loose lioness – after admitting the missing animal is actually a boar.

Authorities determined on Friday that there is ‘no acute danger’ to people in Kleinmachnow on the edge of Berlin where a potentially dangerous animal was spotted, saying they no longer believe that a lioness is at large and calling off the hunt.

A search turned up no sign of such a predator and experts who analysed a video have concluded that it was likely a wild boar, they said.

Police were alerted to the animal at around midnight on Wednesday when people reported what appeared to be a big cat chasing a wild boar. The informants also provided the video.

Based on that, and a subsequent sighting of their own, police initially concluded the animal was apparently a lioness.

Sigh… It seems they have as many cretins in the German authorities as we do.

  1. This from a US news feed:

LONDON — A suspected lion is loose in Berlin, prompting authorities in Germany to send emergency alerts to thousands of people in Berlin warning them to stay indoors.

The message has warned thousands of people across Germany’s capital city to “stay indoors” after a lion was last seen on the outskirts of the metropolitan area.

Police said they received a tip from someone who said they recorded a lion attacking a wild boar which caused authorities to quickly spring into action and warn people to be on the lookout for the large cat.

I’m slightly baffled by the word London at the head of the post, do Americans think that Berlin is a borough of London? Then the story suggests that a wild boar and a lion is loose. Wild boars are pretty dangerous, big cats are mostly dangerous when they are hungry. If you feed them they tend to go to sleep.

  2. Sounds as if the “emergency alerts” were being sent using the same system the British Government tried on us a few weeks ago. If so, maybe the Krautstone Kops were so pleased to have a chance to play with it they didn’t bother checking up on the report.

  3. Perhaps they caught the advert for the women’s world cup by mistake, shows lionesses in cafes, streets and on the sofa!!!

  4. Oh, indeed!

And the big reveal (I doubted the footage the minute I saw it, no lion ever had a tail like that) came the day before the ‘Daily Mail’ went all-in on ‘Are big cats roaming the Scottish gloaming?’ too! So delicious!
