Stranger Than Fiction

Reading this article sounds like a film.

Of course it could all be absolute bunkum. Indeed, the smart money would suggest that being the case. However, the Russian state still has the echoes of the Soviet Union. These shenanigans are entirely believable. Far be it to simply announce the death and that a new interim leader would be taking over pending elections. But this is Russia, who knows what is fact and what is fiction?

All of which said, if Putin has popped his clogs (and no loss there) what happens in Ukraine? A sensible solution would be to blame the dead man for everything and negotiate a sensible way out, rather than continue a bloody, costly and largely pointless war. Because, frankly, there ain’t any winners there.

Interesting times. It will be fascinating to see if the rumours currently circulating have any truth in them.

  1. The writer Victor Suvarov is very interesting. Inside The Soviet Army and The Aquarium are fascinating books.

Regarding this story, I suppose that the truth will come out in the next few days. I hope he had the time of his life.

  2. Can’t see anything about it anywhere else.
    I think fake

Though if he did go and join the choir invisible, there’s no guarantee that Putin’s replacement isn’t going to be even more hawkish.

  3. Nah. The truth is that one of the body doubles died… the Real Putin previously swapped with him to find out who was loyal to Mother Russia. Or perhaps something else really crazy…

  4. The Ministry of Truth strikes again. Is he fuck dead, or even sick (no more than the average Russian).

One should hope he is not on his deathbed, God only knows what his final wish will be.

And btw, unpopular, I know, one of the last leaders to at least take some interest in the betterment and preservation of his own people.
