Threats, Threats

It’s an empty threat, frankly.

Top Vladimir Putin ally Dmitri Medvedev urged Russian forces to launch cluster munitions at Kyiv while Rishi Sunak visited the Ukrainian capital.

Writing on Telegram, he said: “British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv to sign a ‘historic security agreement.’

“How would the Western public react to the fact that the British delegation came under fire from cluster munitions in the centre of Kyiv, as happened to the civilians of our Belgorod?

“And one more thing: I hope that our eternal enemies, the arrogant British, understand that the deployment of their official military contingent in Ukraine will mean a declaration of war on our country.”

We’ve been hearing this pretty much incessantly since the invasion began. However, the Russians may talk a big talk, but they no more want an escalation than we do. A global conflict won’t end well for anyone and they know it.

And as I have mentioned before, we are not Russia’s eternal enemies. We have until relatively recently been allies. Indeed, we were allies when they were under the yoke of the Soviet Union. I, for one, would like to see Russia and Britain on good terms. I doubt that I’m alone.

That said, go ahead, we won’t miss him…

  1. Sadly, I’d take Putin and his kleptocrats over the shower of shite elites we have. At least we’d have sufficient energy for our needs and the thievery would be expected and blatant rather than pretending we are a bastion of probity.

  2. People seem to forget that Zelinsky is also a dictator. No free press, state controlled television, harrassment and imprisonment of political opponents, etc.

They also forget the intense provokation Putin faced, both by the Ukranian regime allowing systematic murder of Russian citizens in Crimes, and NATO sabre-rattling on his doorstep.

This war is none of our concern, and the billions we are giving (from borrowing, btw) are doing nothing but unnecessarily extend the slaughter.

As Mr Smith says above, Putin, for all his flaws, at least acts in the interests of his own people, something UK politicians have not done for at least 100 years, if ever.
