You can spot a first-time gym user. They’ll struggle with the ubiquitous ‘push knob and release’ door mechanism, before heading to the bikes or treadmills; easiest to operate without prior knowledge.
A gender divide emerges here. You’d expect all beginners to act as female rookies tend to: shy, apologetic, aiming to cause minimal inconvenience to others.
But there is no beginner’s modesty in the male gym user. Their lack of shame continues until they become an obnoxious squat rack grunter, while even the most ripped women are quiet and considerate.
I’m no exercise aficionado but as a perennial gym user, my hours spent observing others have taught me one thing: all men should be banned from gyms.
I utterly despise people who behave like this. ‘I don’t like it, so it should be banned.’ What a vile individual.
Other men have a penchant for whipping off their shirts while doing cardio (I’ve never seen a woman do the same). The issue with this is T-shirts have the fortuitous ability to soak up sweat.
When you’re chasing a personal best sans top, your sweat will travel, dripping onto the machines.
Which would be fine if a) said men wiped the equipment down afterwards, and b) they thoroughly showered. Often, neither is the case.
A friend told me that in the men’s changing rooms there is a sign asking people to shower properly as the smell was becoming so egregious. No such sign emerged in the ladies.
One of the schools I worked at had a gym. I never noticed any such problem in the male facilities – likewise the local leisure centre. Some men behave badly, but as we see here, so do some women. The whole thing is a nasty misandrist rant.
I don’t know which gym she goes to but I don’t recognise any of the stuff that she describes. I go to the Total Fitness gym near in Willerby near Hull everyone there is considerate and polite. As far as I am aware all of the men shower after working out, I don’t know about the women, I would have to ask my wife.
My wife, who used to be a PE teacher, says that she had an awful problem getting the girls to shower after PE. No problem with the boys. Maybe things change when you get older.

Click bait article. What are the newspapers going to do when apps become available to block such drivel? Mind you there won’t be much left.
What an earth is a gym ?
If I wish for exercise I go for a stiff walk followed by an even stiffer drink.
I go there to swim. Wife and her sister share a personal trainer who teaches them how to use the resistance machines properly. I have been doing quite a bit of walking too, my watch sets me a step count target each day. If I reach the target then the target for tomorrow goes up so that running up consecutive days of hitting it creates a nice challenge. Ten days is my record so far. Target today is around eleven thousand, I’m unlikely to make it as I’ve just spent several hours fixing the washer.
I never shower at the gym because I’ve still got to cycle home afterwards. I wonder is the writer thought of that or perhaps she’s one of these strange people who drives to a gym in order to pedal miles on a stationary bicycle?
Yunny mummy with bugger all else to do? The rest of us have jobs and other responsibilities.
My routine is, if i get an early finish at work i’ll change into my gym kit there as i pass the gym on the way, park the car and dive in and hope to do my routine…if the usual suspect half wits arn’t sitting blocking the bloody machines watching idiot vidoes on the phones stiched into their hands.
Generally i get most of my exercises completed before getting to pissed off point with the little shits, then walk outside jump in my car and bugger off.
Could shower there, but much rather in the comfort of my own home.
Don’t see anyone removing their tops, some of the younger women might as well not be wearing a top but that’s presumably OK.
The school I worked in had boys’ and girls; changing rooms. I didn’t give them much thought until I realised one morning that the boys’ smelled of cheap cologne and gthe girls’ smelled of pee . . .
Joey Swoll (an American fitness trainer and gym owner) has quite a few videos on youtube showing “influencers” filming themselves in gyms, branding every male a creep for looking at them and monopolising the place. Only to put the videos on their only fans accounts and have millions of men watching them …
They are nuttier than squirrel shit.

Most of the women’s gym wear is incredibly revealing. Leggings that have the appearance of having been spray painted on for instance. A lot of the women have amazingly well toned bodies. If they are expecting that men won’t look they must have had very sheltered lives.
When I used to use a gym years ago, it was a converted warehouse with no niceties. I started as a novice, and all the ripped up blokes in there were eager to offer help and advice, which was great.
Also, there were no women getting in everyones way while trying to film their Tik Tok videos. I wonder what her opinion is on that
