You’re Kidding, Right?

Apparently not

Most people’s gripe about trailers these days is that they blow too much info about a film’s plot. But not Sarah Deming. This Michigan resident is suing the distributor of the critically acclaimed Ryan Gosling thriller Drive – as well as the cinema where she saw it – claiming it was publicised as a Fast and Furious style action piece but turned out to be nothing of the sort.

The cinema has offered to refund her ticket, but that ain’t good enough, apparently. She’s hoping for a class action suit. So, there we have it, someone who wants to confirm the USA as a frivolous litigant’s paradise where they sue for the slightest slight.

As a comment points out:

Deming, who has the time to file frivolous lawsuits, but apparently not to Google a review of the movie she’s about to go see

Quite.

  1. “…claiming it was publicised as a Fast and Furious style action piece but turned out to be nothing of the sort.”

Can I sue the makers of ‘The Blair Witch Project’ for promising me a scary film in the trailer, then? 😛

  2. Can I sue the BBC for promising me global warming yet the last winter was unbearably cold? Seems like a class action cause to my way of thinking.

  3. There’s some strong feeling about this – check out this Cracked! list of things movie trailers need to stop doing and see what’s number one. Suing is pretty over the top though. Why not just take the refund and remember to read reviews as well as watching the trailers before buying a cinema ticket next time?

  4. I’ve followed the links now and I see she’s also complaining that the film is anti-semitic. I haven’t seen it but it sounds unlikely. There’s at least one Jewish actor on the cast list and in Hollywood there’s bound to be more involved in making it. And none of them went, ‘Hey, this is a bit anti-Jew, isn’t it?’ 😕

  5. I shall sue the makers of Troll Hunter. Imagine my trauma upon viewing the trailer and finding that it was about some bloke chasing mythical beasts around Norway in an old Land Rover, with not even a mention of getting even internet abusers.

That’s over a minute of my life that was wasted and someone is gonna pay buster!
