Sigh…

You may remember this case hitting the headlines.

A 16-year-old boy who harassed a same-sex couple on a night bus and stole one of their handbags after they refused to kiss has had his sentence increased because of his “homophobic” actions.

The image that hit the headlines did not, as is usual with the MSM show the whole story. If you watched the video footage, the blonde girl got up, walked past two of the boys and threw a punch at the third, escalating the violence. Which is probably why there is no mention of the violence in this judgement.

I’m going to make a couple of observations here that are far from politically correct.

If you are going to travel on public transport in the early hours of the morning and you are alone – or in this case, with a partner of the same sex – exercise some situational awareness. So canoodling in public will draw attention to yourselves. That is what happened here. Does it excuse the boys’ behaviour? No, but it could have been avoided by keeping your displays of affection private. You know, exercise some decorum and not force the rest of the world to watch.

Again, this does not excuse the boys’ behaviour.

Self defence does not apply as it wasn’t self defence – the woman threw the first punch.

The theft stands as a crime in its own right and there is no defence here.

However, what we had was low level harassment that escalated, yet the press presented this as an unprovoked physical assault. It wasn’t. The evidence tells a different story. So once again, we have evidence that the mainstream media cannot be relied upon to present factual truth.

Finally, the punishment was increased because of the sexuality of the victims. This is outrageous and sums up everything that is wrong with our legal system. The vast majority of victims of physical assault are men, in which case, the punishment is less. Had it been a heterosexual couple, that would have been the case here. This is justice?

If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that.

It’s as true now as when it was first penned. But our legal system thinks differently. Apparently lesbians bleed more profusely than straight white males. All are equal before the law, but some are more equal than others.

  1. Almost all minority groups warrant special treatment these days. I’m only waiting for the time when assaults/abuse visited upon white, middle-aged/elderly straight men are positively encouraged and lauded.

  2. “Apparently lesbians bleed more profusely than straight white males”

On average, about every four weeks …

  3. I’ve said it time and time again. After working in pubs for many years, I’ve never seen an actual unprovoked attack. All fights start with words and eventually escalate into physical violence, only after multiple opportunities to walk away have been ignored
People seem incapable of walking away from a gobby bugger for fear of losing face (or something)
I’ve seen a couple of scraps bad enough to make it into the local papers, all reported as unprovoked attacks, but all nothing of the sort
And then there’s the ‘peacemaker’. One such chap got himself killed round here and his folks still do memorials, fundraising and raising ‘awareness’. The fact is, whenever a third drunk steps in to stop two other drunks fighting, the problem always gets worse, not better
