Idiots

I will lose a day’s work on the 19th – which, incidentally, is international talk like a pirate day. The DVSA, being a crown agency is inevitably going to close shop. They have already indicated that no tests will occur at our centre that day, so it’s a stay at home day for me. I’ve no great desire to watch a funeral, state or otherwise, so will find something to do. I’m not greatly inconvenienced, but if I was halfway though a holiday and was evicted for the day, I would be.

Devastated families have hit out at Center Parcs after it announced it will order holidaymakers to leave its UK sites on the day of the Queen‘s funeral.

The company is being inundated with complaints after it revealed that its five parks will close for 24 hours from 10am on Monday.

Guests part-way through holidays will be forced to spend the night elsewhere or go home early.

Whatever happened to common sense? Seriously? This is taking stupidity to another level. If staff wanted time off, I’m pretty sure that a sensible arrangement could have been reached, but to kick people out halfway though a holiday is just plain idiocy.

Center Parcs said in a statement that it made the decision ‘as a mark of respect and to allow as many of our colleagues as possible to be part of this historic moment’.

How about respect for your paying customers? I’m really not convinced that the late Queen would have wanted people thrown out of their accommodation as a ‘mark of respect.’ Indeed, it is a mark of the paucity of intelligence over at Center Parc’s management, not respect. What we are seeing is an unthinking, kneejerk reaction instead of a considered response, bearing in mind the industry they are in. Not all businesses can close and the leisure industry is clearly one of them.

‘All guests impacted by the closure will receive an email today explaining the options available.’

Oh, well, that’s alright then. Fuckwits.

Truly we are rapidly descending into Idiocracy.

  1. I’m going to a hotel for a stay on 19th. I have been advised that they will lay on activities but should they need a minimum amount of guests to participate, and there isn’t enough, that activity will be cancelled. Seems a reasonable way to proceed. I’m hoping to get there on time to watch the funeral, but that depends on traffic.
Surely centerparcs have large screens so people, staff and guests can watch the funeral without too much disruption.

  2. “…to allow as many of our colleagues as possible to be part of this historic moment.”

I wonder if they asked them? I don’t have any interest in watching the funeral. The gym is closing so I won’t be able to go for a swim but I’m sure that I’ll find something to amuse myself with.

  3. This evening CP announced that they had reconsidered and are allowing the holidaymakers to stay on site even if all the amenities are closed. Kind of them. Morons.

    • More rabbit in the headlights. They think they should be seen to show respect but have no idea what to do, so went for the kneejerk reaction, with the emphasis on the jerk.
