The truth is important. We need to defend it.
An aspiring MP who stood for the Conservatives as a man but is now fighting for a Westminster seat as a Green woman has accused the Tory deputy leader of ‘gaslighting’ and ‘transphobia’ after she tweeted her local rival is ‘a man who wears a wig and calls himself a “proud lesbian”.’
Words are also important. A man cannot become a woman. A man cannot become a lesbian. Viner is a heterosexual man. He is wearing a wig and he is not remotely convincing as a woman.
Tory Party Deputy Chair for Women Ms Maclean shared the post with the comment: ‘While the Greens don’t know what a woman is, my Worcestershire neighbours the people of Bromsgrove certainly do’. She has now deleted it and apologised.
Apologising to these people only encourages them. The truth is that this man is pretending to be a woman. He is wearing a wig. These observations are factually true along with the fact that he is not and never will be, a lesbian. If you have spoken the truth, stand by it. Never apologise for it.
Oh and the gaslighting – the only people doing that are those who use terms like transphobia and expect us to validate the pretence that a fat, bald man in drag is a woman.

Perhaps we could put together a general purpose draft reply to a demand for an apology? Two Anglo Saxon words are tempting but may inflate the emotions rather than halt the accusations.
Something like “I am both surprised and offended that you have responded to my opinions with such a pointed and illogical response. You must be very special.” You have to keep a straight face while you say this though.
