Ireland Votes “No”

It is looking very much as if the “no” vote took the day in Ireland.

Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern says substantial vote tallies across the country show the European Union Lisbon reform treaty has been rejected.

Tallies are not official, but Mr Ahern says it is clear the No vote is ahead in a vast majority of constituencies.

So, what does this mean for the EU constitution Lisbon treaty?

This would scupper the treaty, which must be ratified by all members. Only Ireland has held a public vote on it.

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. So Ireland has done what we would probably have done if the government had honoured their manifesto promise and allowed us to have our say.

Many thanks, Ireland,

Sláinte.

  1. No doubt this will be forced through any which way they can. The EU are enemies of democracy.

The Republic has my thanks though. Good on you.
