Ho Ho

Another green policy is about to collapse.

The government has suggested it could abandon plans to fine big boiler makers if they fail to hit heat pump targets.

The penalties are part of a scheme beginning in April that aims to speed up the phasing out of gas boilers.

As with EVs, you can’t force consumers to buy something by fining the manufacturers.

But ministers are reportedly poised to scrap the fines, after manufacturers raised boiler prices.

Ah, yes, of course, make the consumer pay dearly for not buying the useless crap.

But a number of manufacturers argue fines are inevitable because the targets are unachievable, and have added surcharges of up to £120 to offset the cost, which have been dubbed the “boiler tax”.

Of course. They are reacting in a perfectly rational manner to an irrational diktat.

Greenpeace UK expressed dismay at the suggestion the fines could be ditched, accusing the government of “bending to blackmail from boiler companies”.

But government blackmail is perfectly okay. Arseholes.

  1. “And have added surcharges of up to £120 to offset the cost”

If they’ve started doing so before April I would say that’s a bit naughty, to say the least. Any such surcharges already added to customers bills should be refunded pronto.

  2. “As with EVs, you can’t force consumers to buy something by fining the manufacturers.”

Isn’t this completely obvious to anyone who isn’t a drooling idiot?

Meanwhile EV sales have taken another nosedive.

We are governed by drooling idiots. They lack any form of ability to reason, let alone think critically.

  3. Knowing the usual Tory approach, they’ll just defer implementation to next year and leave it for Starmer’s Labour government to deal with.

  4. Article in the Grauniad yesterday decrying gas cookers and extolling the virtues of induction hobs, so I suspect that’ll be their next wheeze…
