Cameron.

Foreign secretary David Cameron has sparked a backlash from Tory MPs after he suggested Britain could bring forward formal UK recognition of a Palestinian state.

The former PM has said such a move could help to make a two-state solution – currently stalled, with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu firmly opposed – an “irreversible” process.

What part of ‘from the river to the sea,’ does this fuckwit not understand? What part of the negotiations where Israel offered just that over the past seven decades (including the UN two state agreement that Israel accepted in 1947) does he not get? What part of Hamas’ charter that specifically calls for no negotiated solution does he not comprehend? What bit of ‘kill all the Jews’ in the Hadiths passed him by?

  1. In my opinion Cameron was always a salesman, believing that if he said things convincingly enough everybody would fall into line. This worked well enough for a while – the Western World political consensus was that you could defer hard choices ‘forever’. Kicking the can down the road became the easy option.

But recently the Western political consensus has been failing. It is no longer convincing and hard choices will have to be made to avoid total collapse. There is no more road to kick the can down and people will have to face the unpleasant fact that it is no longer possible for everyone to have prizes. That some people may be penalised for their choices.

I wonder if the strong retaliation by the Israelis is recognition that hard choices can no longer be deferred?

  2. Cameron thought he could sell the “Remain” line. He was wrong there, too, and about something which I suspect he (unusually) genuinely believed in. Why on Earth he has picked this issue make pronouncements about I can’t imagine; you would think he would just keep his head down.

Might be as well to keep an eye on the South Atlantic; I seem to remember that the last time the Foreign Secretary was a Lord, the Argies had a go at the Falkland Islands under the cover of trouble in the Middle East.

  3. It occurred to me that we need an election slogan that basically says Vote for anyone but liblabcon. None of the establishment parties are fit to govern and that needs to become a widespread belief in order for their houses to be torn down.

    • In political choice arguments I always hear “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by the Who, released as a single in June 1971.

      Chorus:
I’ll tip my hat to the new Constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
      Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
      We don’t get fooled again
      No, no

Which suggests to me that the LibLabCon lot have got away with conning us for more than 50 years. So although I have not come up with an election slogan I have a suggestion for the election music…
